Create a video tutorial (or record desktop)

I have tried Istanbul, (gtk-)recordmydesktop and xvidcap to record my desktop.

Those programs run fine on my gnome laptop, but on my fluxbox setup they don’t work.

That’s how I stumbled onto “Wink”.

The app is in the Ubuntu repos, so installing is done as usual.

Wink will allow you add text balloons to your video, it will allow you to delete frames, …

Usage is easy and all done using a GUI.

I could tell you how to start using it, but frankly it’s so easy that it would be insulting readers intellects by doing so.

Wink can only save the recording in .swf or .exe, so you’ll going to need to convert it if you wish to upload it to youtube or something. That being said, if you host your own website, .swf will do fine.

You can use winff for you converting needs, or use this free excellent online service.

I’ll just provide you with a screenshot of the app and a little video I did with it.
