Pytube Media Converter
I’m sure everyone every now and then comes across a video they wish to download.
Well Pytube does this with style, and more.
It can download videos from youtube, myspace tv, metacafe and google video.
What sets this application apart from the rest is that it includes a media converter.
This means that you can’t just download the video, it means you can download the video as an mp3 file or as a 3pg file, and much more …
Download this nice application here. (fedora, gentoo and debian/ubuntu packages available)
To install the file, just double click it and follow directions. (for ubuntu)
When you start the application you get a nice and easy screen.
Once you entered the URL of the video you would like to download, you can choose in what format you would like to save it.
The file gets saved to your /home/username directory. (places -> home)
You can also use the programs to search for youtube videos. I don’t use it, but maybe someone will find this useful.
What is interesting is that you can also use the application to convert videos. It can handle anything ffmpeg can handle (a lot).
But the thing I like the best is that you can add audio to mute videos (no more screwing around with avidemux !!), resize or shrink videos, merge videos together and rotate them around. Hell, you can even make ringtones for you mobile phone.
Finding this app was a very pleasant surprise for me, and it will make things a lot easier.
Note: I downloaded a video as mp3 and no metadata was added at all. “Audio Tag Tool” is really easy to add tags to the file.
Note 2: It always downloads the flv video and then converts it, so if you download a video as mp3, the orginal flv file will also be in your /home folder.
