Make mounted drives not appear on your desktop.
I like my destkop empty. But the standard nautilus (gnome’s filemanager) settings is for the mounted drives (cd’s, mp3 player, usb flash sticks, …) to display an icon on the desktop.
It’s pretty easy to change this behaviour
You press “alt+f2” and enter “gconf-editor”.
You go to Apps -> Nautilus -> Desktop and make sure the bottom box isn’t ticked (volumes_visable).
