Ubuntu Video converter
If you don’t like the command line mencoder to do your video converting, there is the excellent winff!
Winff can be downloaded here.
They have the .deb and .rpm packages so installing them is as simple as double clicking the package.
I used it to encode an .ogg video to .avi and it did the trick and it was quite fast.
It’s no looker but it gets the job done and is user friendly.

It Woks your rite no looker but it does get the job done i converted an .avi file to a mpeg with 1.7% loss of quality but it is better than nero 8 recode with 7.54% loss of quality thanks mate

Hi,
i tried using WinFF, but i could not manage to convert .flv to .3gp or .mp4.
I could see an error in the command line saying “unknown codec AAC”.
Can you please help me out on this?
I might be because the ffmpeg version in ubuntu is missing a few formats because of copyright issues.
This article explains how to get the the proper ffmpeg running (win ff is just a graphical user interface for that program).

Winff dont work It wont convert my video
Hi, im looking for a converter and i came upon yours, just wondering….does it convert 3g2 videos from the LG celphone i forgot the model, but i want to convert videos in 3g2 to any other cause my video players wont recognize it and as far as i can remember only Quicktime was able to play em…..on windows but i have ubuntu 9.5 so what should i do?
im using linux ubuntu and im trying to view some video but all the thing is only the audio plays not the video? i need help!? ASAP
Winff can be downloaded easily from the Synaptic package manager.
