Messed up picture with vlc?
Does your movie looks something like this on vlc?
The solution is simple.
1. In vlc go to settings -> preferences.
2. In that window there is a little box in the bottom right corner called “advanced options”, tag it.
3. Go to video -> output modules.
4. Change from default to “x11 video output”.
The same video from the top picture will now look like this:

That’s a good workaround, thanks. That’s not a solution, so VLC people, please correct what needs to be corrected in the application, after linking this symptom to the problem that causes it.
